Job description
An employee in this class participates in the operations of fire suppression and emergency medical services on an assigned shift. Performs routine unskilled manual work in the collection of garbage, trash, and yard waste in the Public Works Department
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class performs manual labor involving the collection of refuse and garbage. Employees load trash, including furniture, appliances, and yard waste from curbside. Also works as a member of a leaf and limb crew. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Leaf and Limb Crew Leader.
Duties and Responsibilities Work
· Works as a member of a trash, yard waste, or garbage collection crew to load trash, debris, and junked furniture and appliances from roadsides
· Works as a member of a leaf collection crew
· Picks up loose trash and litter along street
· Assists with dumping solid waste at transfer site or landfill
· Assists with cleaning and maintenance of trucks and tools
· Assists with other sanitation or public works crews as needed
· May be assigned to drive/operate heavy equipment such as Street Sweeper

Must be able to perform the basic life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Work generally involves continuous field work requiring light to heavy physical activity. Must be able to perform work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess visual acuity to operate a limb chipping machine, as well as a sanitation collection vehicle to collect garbage and refuse.
The employee is subject to working in outside environments including extreme hot and cold weather and work hazards including exposure to noise, smells, vibration, moving mechanical parts, fumes, dust, oils, and skin irritants. The employee is subject to OSHA Standards on bloodborne pathogens.

Performs a variety of clerical, secretarial, and support duties in the Hamlet Depot and Museum.
Distinguishing Features of the Class
An employee in this class performs a variety of public contact, clerical, and administrative and technical support duties for the Depot and Museum Director. This position is responsible for maintaining records, providing customer service, managing customer complaints, data entry, and other related office duties.
Work is technical in nature and requires a broad knowledge of City history and departmental functions, policies and procedures and handling a variety of general and inquiries from citizens and visitors.
