General Statement of Duties

Performs routine unskilled manual work in the collection of garbage, trash, and yard waste in the Public Works Department

Distinguishing Features of the Class

An employee in this class performs manual labor involving the collection of refuse and garbage. Employees load trash, including furniture, appliances, and yard waste from curbside. Also works as a member of a leaf and limb crew. Work is performed under the regular supervision of the Leaf and Limb Crew Leader.

Duties and Responsibilities Work

· Works as a member of a trash, yard waste, or garbage collection crew to load trash, debris, and junked furniture and appliances from roadsides

· Works as a member of a leaf collection crew

· Picks up loose trash and litter along street

· Assists with dumping solid waste at transfer site or landfill

· Assists with cleaning and maintenance of trucks and tools

· Assists with other sanitation or public works crews as needed

· May be assigned to drive/operate heavy equipment such as Street Sweeper

· Performs other related work as requireD

Recruitment and Selection Guidelines

· Working knowledge of the principles and practices of operating trucks and equipment

· Working knowledge of the traffic laws and regulations governing equipment operation

· Working knowledge of the occupational hazards involved

· Knowledge of street layout on assigned routes

· Skill and care in the operation of the equipment

· Ability to understand and follow written and oral instructions

· Ability to operate heavy equipment

· Ability to work cooperatively as a team member

Must be able to perform the basic life functions of climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, and repetitive motions. Work generally involves continuous field work requiring light to heavy physical activity. Must be able to perform work exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Must possess visual acuity to operate a limb chipping machine, as well as a sanitation collection vehicle to collect garbage and refuse.

The employee is subject to working in outside environments including extreme hot and cold weather and work hazards including exposure to noise, smells, vibration, moving mechanical parts, fumes, dust, oils, and skin irritants. The employee is subject to OSHA Standards on bloodborne pathogens.

Graduation from high school or GED equivalency

Valid North Carolina commercial driver’s license (CDL B)

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Sergeant to join our team. As a Sergeant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining law and order, ensuring public safety, and leading a team of officers effectively.

Responsibilities:

• Meet all police officer requirements
• Provide supervision for shift operations, including directing, prioritizing, and reviewing the work activities of all those working on the shift.
• Provide proactive assistance to the patrol commander while providing leadership and supervision to sworn and civilian members of the shift, ensuring compliance with department orders and state laws.
• Ensure subordinates receive adequate training to perform duties as required
• Responds to calls for assistance, complaints, suspicious activity, domestic disputes, loud and disruptive behavior; completes calls by determining true nature of the situation and taking whatever legal action is warranted
• Issues traffic citations and parking tickets as required; writes accident reports
• Investigates traffic accidents; directs traffic and participates in other emergency operation activities
• Performs investigations of accidents or possible crimes through observation, questioning witnesses, and gathering physical evidence; performs investigative tasks, arrests, and processes criminal suspects; presents testimony in court
• Serves warrants and subpoenas; apprehends and processes criminal suspects and transports to magistrate and/or County detention facilities
• Regulates and directs vehicular traffic at local schools and when traffic signal malfunctions or accidents require
• Operates a two-way radio to receive instructions and information from or to report information to police headquarters; maintains vehicle, weapons, and other equipment in standard working order.
• Advises the public on laws and local ordinances
• Assists with fire and rescue calls as required
• Prepares and submits accurate written reports
• Performs related duties as required

Qualifications:

• Knowledge of all applicable laws, regulations, statutes, and policies
• 2 years police experience required
• Integrity and a strong personal code of ethics
• Ability to use sound judgment
• Proficiency in using computer software and the ability to learn new software easily
• Ability to create detailed reports
• Strong organizational skills and the ability to follow through on tasks
• Ability to maintain multiple projects simultaneously and to prioritize tasks

• Ability to work shifts, including weekends, holidays, and overtime required

Job description

An employee in this class participates in the operations of fire suppression and emergency medical services on an assigned shift. The employee performs a variety of technical, procedural, and regulatory methods and techniques relating to fire suppression and prevention, rescue, first aid, and equipment and apparatus operation. Responds to emergency situations requiring emergency medical attention and performs duties of an Paramedic. Acquires and maintains required State certification for Firefighter I and Paramedic. Work is performed under general supervision of the Fire Lieutenant

Duties

• May drive fire apparatus or other vehicles to incident scenes
• Participates in rescue operations at fire scenes, accidents, hazardous areas, and other emergency situations
• Renders first aid and assists other agencies in emergencies
• Responds to emergency medical calls and performs duties in accordance with applicable state and federal laws, local ordinances, established policies, procedures and protocols, and within established chain of command; refers to policy manuals as necessary.
• Assesses and evaluates situation at scenes of emergency response; surveys and secures scene, requesting additional assistance, as necessary; determines mechanism of injury and equipment needed to effect rescue and initiation of treatment.
• Participates in continuous training and physical fitness programs, and in the routine cleaning and maintenance of fire station facilities, grounds, and equipment
• Conducts inspections and tests of firefighting, rescue, and first aid equipment, apparatus, and fire hydrants
• Participates in pre-fire planning inspections, sketches building, and area plans noting street and hydrant locations, obstacles, hazards, and other features pertinent to the development of firefighting strategy and rescue operations
• Participates in salvage operations and identification of fire causes
• Assists with presentations for fire division personnel and public groups
• Preserves evidence of possible arson and circumstances causing medical emergencies.
• Prepares a variety of reports, data, and written materials
• Conducts periodic inspections and tests of fire hydrants, firefighting, rescue and first aid equipment and apparatus

Education and Experience

Graduation from high school or GED equivalency supplemented by training courses in firefighting, fire prevention, CPR/first aid, rescue, apparatus and equipment operation, and related fire sciences; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
